SHOT1.JPG-27k P-63C King Cobra- A/C belonged to Jack Sandberg in the early days of racing. Jack had it raced mostly by Lefty Gardner from 1972 until 1976. Sold to Mike Smith, who entered it in the 1979 event (the year of this photo) under the name of "What Price Speed" it posted a speed of 318.486, too slow to make the field. SHOT19.JPG-24k Thanks to a visitor named Ernie, we now know that this plane is.....Douglas B-23 Dragon . This was an unsuccessful high speed bomber derivation of the DC-3. Only a handful were biult but the war ended too quickly for active service. Most were then marketed and used as executive transports. (Howard Hughes had one).
