  • P-51 vs Me-262

    I had the unique opportunity to fly with the Collings Foundation's P-51 Mustang and Me-262 today...............what a pairing!!!!! Yes, the 262 is back flying thanks to the outstanding work accomplished by the Sanders facility and their talented group of folks. Todays flight brought back the days from 1944. I want to thank the Foundation for their cooperation...this is a class organization!

          Would "Lucky Dog" be an inappropriate comment?

          What most of us would give to be in that seat. Love the pix.

            Great shots!! The last stand alone of the 262 really show some of the most beautiful lines to ever grace an aircraft.

              Maybe it's just me, but I've always seen the features of other airframes in the lines of the ME-262...

              Wing = Scaled down Douglas DC-3

              Forward/mid fuselage = V-2 Rocket meets P-39/63

              Tail = Mig-15

              Engine nacelles = Gloster Meteor meets Boeing 707

                  Beautiful, very nice both airplanes.
                  Coincidences of the history, both designed by germans.
                  Thank you for posting it, nice shots.

                      Re: P-51 vs Me-262

                      So a bit of AZ political trivia relevant to this. While I lived in AZ we briefly had a governor named Ev Mechan (impeached after 13 weeks as I remember). Interesting guy, but what I thought was fascinating was that he flew Mustangs in WW-2 and was shot down by and ME-262!

                      He ended up in a German POW camp and made the news when he said he wanted the AZ government to run as efficiently as the Nazis that processed him into the prison camp!

                      Needless to say, some folks found that comment a little disconcerting!

                        Re: P-51 vs Me-262

                        Is he the first pilot to be shot down by a Me-262 ?
                        I think the comment is like a sarcasm that can be applied to many places, not regarding nazis but germans.
