I hope they didn't bend her. She deserves better then that. Look at the attitude when she's still 50 feet in the air.......I think they're lucky they didnt' crash. I hope she's ok.

if you look at it frame by frame, at the 7 second mark you can see they got a tail strike. you can see the tail skid fully retracted and then pop back down a second later. I hope there is no damage in the tail of her.

OUCH! I hope they dont bend her. I want to see her at Oshkosh.
I could be wrong but I think my flight instructor said something about not flairing too high. Wonder how long the runway was.....

Needs a tail hook...looks like a typical Navy approach.

          Thread from Warbird Information Exchange

We did strike the tail on landing on Thursday. We have performed the necessary inspection and returned the aircraft to flying status. FAA also examined and were satisfied. there is no safety concerns. Please keep speculation to a minimum to cause. Thank you and fly safe .

There's no need to speculate on this one......only one reason for it.

              Re: B-29 Landing

I've only seen FiFi fly a couple times....and if I remember, the B-29 typically does a very 'nose-down' approach and the flare's over the numbers. In the video it appeared to be carrying very nose-high, power on.

Was this just recovering from a bad approach, or what? I'm not asking to be critical or speculating...more just the pilot in me interested in seeing what I'm looking at.

I went on you tube looking for a smooth landing for comparison and found this, looks to be another hard landing to me.

Maybe the pilot was a navy pilot?

Looks to be the same airport. Appears he has full flaps in that landing. Judging from the first video and this one, it appears he's having difficulty determing the proper point to start the flare.......makes an abrupt pitch change just prior to touch down in this one, and starts the flare waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay high in the first one.

                          Re: B-29 Landing

Did anyone happen to notice the wing flaps were at 15 degrees during this screwed up approach and landing at Jones beach. Flaps are at 15 deg. for T/O and 45 deg. on final approach. The approach angle is what would scare me. It would be interesting to see what the airspeed indicated in this approach.
Approaches and landings like this makes me question the qualifications of the CAF crews on FiFi.
