Those with a clean airframe & mill with ADI/hi-boost potential at low altitudes.

Likely the usual suspects.. plus a few outliers that never got a chance to race..

AFAIK the Do 335 was - like the big turbo-Jugs - not so fast down low, <400mph under 10,000ft..

Not a warbird, & no design measure top-speed actually attained anyhow..

If ya'll want to get funny; the F4U-1, with aerodynamic cleanup, and little to no weight reduction, made 442mph! But of course, that was at critical altitude.


My choice would probably be something like the XP-72, as mentioned in another thread.
