I was skimming through a website belonging to a gentleman who designs and builds land speed record cars, and came across a concept design he had for a VERY unique air racer (He must be looking WAY ahead into the future....his design is turboprop-powered). I thought A few members might like to see it. He calls it "The Low Transonic Pylon Air Racer":

It's just a concept, and he has no plans on making it (perhaps a good thing, as the large frontal area and small tailfins give me the impression of a very unstable aircraft, and his idea of the jet exhaust expelled through the prop to make it go faster doesn't make sense to me....Wouldn't doing so reduce prop efficency?))
While you are there, you may want to look at his "Constitution LSRV" rocket-car he is working on. He seems to have manage to obtain several LR-99 rocket engines as used on the X-15 !!! Here's a link to the home page:
