Ultra lite AMBULANCE aircraft !

I did a study for an 8 seater transport for 2 x ULS 912 engines.

It could also be converted into a 4 stretcher ambulance aircraft.

This has very modest top speed of 190 mph and most economical cruise at 125 mph. What is pretty interesting about this is that it would take you from San Francisco to Washinton DC in 39 hours but using only 10 gallons fuel per occupant ( 80 gallons all together ).

IO name comes from the 4th moon of the planet Jupiter. Previous IO is also a ultra distance plane with PPG engine ( this may be more reliable ).

I updated this a bit.

I am currently designing a 1/2 scale twin single seater to test this bigger airliner ( to fly with 2 x MZ175 or DLE 222 ).

Here is a sneak peak to it...really smal and possibly able to stay under 300 kg with even 40 hp engines.

Thus easily a 240 mph mover...½ scale AEON proto for the IO-1 transport.

That would be good if saving fuel and money is the ultimate goal. It wouldn't be mine though.


Frankly, If I ever need aviation-related emergency transport, I hope the guys I fly with and the aircraft they choose take "speed" and "minimum-time-to-arrival" seriously. Getting my sick or broken butt to the hospital ASAP is important to me, for obvious reasons...

I just bought the latest Aerokurier issue..in the Alps Tirol based DO 328 operating firm gets 1600 ambulance flights per season.

This craft is also sight seeing events etc suitable ( IO-2 ) and hauling people from remote areas like the North Pole etc. The side product AEON looks actually pretty hot.

I also counted that IO-2 is 26 times cheaper to fly than a EC-135 chopper ( chopper does have one andvantage )...and just as fast.

That ambulance plane of mine could just reach 260 mph if fitted with 2 x 200 hp engines ( like the AEON with 2 x 50 hp ).

With those 200 hp diesels the economy would be awesome 2.5 liter/ passenger 100 km.

It would mean that the trip to from SF to Washington DC would only last 9.5 hours and fuel burn only 200 kilos more. Well that is now excellent isn't it ?

Economy flight would take 10 hours at 245 mph but burn only 1.75 l / passenger / 100 km.

Also lotsa other similarities !

Skyrocket was exactly as fast as Dornier 328-130 is with 4000 hps.
