Skip Holm -- Reno 2002 Unlimited National Champion

Skip Holm & Company on the wing of Dago Red after winning the 2002 Unlimited Gold Race and the National Championship. This is Holm's second victory at the helm of Dago Red, and his forth National Championship overall, having won previously in Stiletto (1984) and Jeannie (1981):

Into the first lap...

This was the starting order, and the finishing order in today's Unlimited Gold Championship heat...Skip Holm leading in Race 4, Dago Red, Mike Brown second in September Fury, and Matt Jackson third in Voodoo. This was Holm's fourth National Championship, second with the Dago Red Team, and the best finish to date for both Brown and Jackson:

Dusty, windy conditions...

There was a question as to whether the race would be held...here, Stewart Dawson in Spirit of Texas, and Hoot Gibson, in Riff Raff, roar down the Valley of Speed as dust blows across the desert landscape. Thirty minutes earlier...you could not see the pylons, the grandstands, nor the Air National Guard base, the blowing sand carried by the winds was THAT dense!:
