just saw the movie "Best Years of Our Lives" on cable , A great movie but the sene of all those Aircobra, B-17s , etc being cut for scrap was enough to make a warbird lover cry

Yep, that was Ontario if I remember. Or was it Chino? Mr Larkins would know if they were one and the same!
I used to have a set of yearbooks (Colliers) that described the various ways the War assets people were trying to deal with their "problem" of too many airplanes, not enough time. Fascinating to read about the ways they were trying to speed up the process, including dissolving them in acid and extracting the various metals from it!
