    Re: The Need for Speed

Playing around with some of the filters in Photoshop a bit and came up with these. The original for September Fury is at the top of this thread.

Retouched? Like a mouth full of silicon...ok, maybe not such a bad thing. Not that I've ever been there....

Nice job Rick, you can get away with that on the F-4 shot but Sept. Fury
looks kinda strange with the prop almost stopped and the background that blurred. One thing I have noticed in shooting the jets at slower shutter speeds you see a lot more of the heat distortion.

I'm going to claim a "Tim" on that one I was going to dial up more shutter speed and I went the wrong way. Lucky I was panning like crazy.
I'm a big fan of Drag racing and I've been shooting Top Fuel cars for twenty years now. I think that made great practice for shooting racing planes.

Gee, thanks. A screw up is now know as a "Tim".

            I am joking here.

We all should be so "Tim"! You know you're famous when this denotation hits Funk & Wagnals! 'Course, you'll hit http://www.urbandictionary.com/ first!

The proper word to use there would be 'known' instead of 'know'. Looks like you Tim'd again.

Victor, yeah I know I need a bit more work on photoshop. I had a few free minutes at the end of the day and messed around with it a bit. As you can tell I didn't waste to much time on it but thought the effect was pretty cool anyway.

Hehe, no screw up. Just "Tim" = dial under on shutter speed.
I also have another favorite technique that is known as the "Bill" shot.
I'm workin on the "Rick" view but I'm still having problems perfecting that one.

The "Rick" view will always be a work in progress that never quite reaches perfection.

Does the "Bill" shot involve a large flame throwing device used to start a barbacue? Oh, that would be Bill Sr.

I didn't actually meet Bill Sr. but I did witness him start the barbacue outside the AAR hangar on Friday night. First he uses the forklift to move the barbacue into place then pulls out this 3 foot tall propane tank and blasts away at the barbacue pit with a flamethrower for the next five minutes. Most impressive barbecue lighting I ever saw.

LOL... Bill is a pretty impressive guy, so is Bill... err.. they are not really Bill Sr. and Bill Jr. they are Bill Pearce and Bill Pearce... hence my stance that Bill is actually a clone of Bill...

Once you get to know them both a bit, it becomes clearer....

Really, a couple of my favorite people, even if I can't get Bill to call me.... *snif*.....

PS... Bill... is it because I have not posted a "bald Wayne shot?" hummn... it could be time for a tripod and self portrait... I don't think BeerNazi, who usually shoots so much with her "throwaway" digital P&S (actually it's mine but I never use it so....) that I also call her Camera Girl... anyway.. she does not seem to want to preserve my current "look" for historical archiving. I'm not so sure I want it done either..

Actually Bill... I look a little like you and Bill... could we all be related?????

Have you ever seen the liquid oxygen grill-lighting method, as demonstrated at the link below?

Three seconds and you're ready for burgers. Now, that's some serious s__t.

Don't try this at home, etc.
