Wow! Great shot, once again!

I spoke with Tom last year at the races. he showed me drawings of the new Critical Mass paint scheme. Very attractive! I asked if he'd polish the pylons once again, just for old-times sake. Mentioned he'd loved to, but with a shrugging Mrs. elbowing him in the side... I would take that as a no! Maybe at the Heritage next year?

How I enjoyed those years and the show the Dwelle family put on for all of us race fans. I always searched that plane out in the pits as soon as I arrived. As a fan, I would like to thank Tom for all the excitement he brought to the sport. It was always a beast of an airplane and it was a favorite with a lot of people.

Anybody have the best lap speed for that airplane then, and again in today's numbers?

I had the chance to sit in it once. You cat see anything out front! The wing tips were closer to the pilot than the prop was. The real feat was that Tom was able to drag it in to Auburn airport before they widened the runway. I was told that if he saw the runway and the wheels weren't on the ground that it was a go around.

In their last year, one of the crew was nice enough to let me up on a stand to take 3D photos of the cockpit. When they see the photos, the first thing folks always point out is the lack of safety equipment. Warbird pilots are some seriously committed individuals wanting to ride this particular whirlwind.

It is kinda sad to see these pics. If anything though the events of 2011 and then this years circus have unfortunately validated the decision to return to stock. Any chance it might be flying in time for Reno? It looks like it is pretty far along but it is always the last 10% that takes the longest.
