  • Anyone remember?

Dream Lover ended up in the desert early in the week in 82, pasting off the nose gear and nose glass, dinging the props. The story was they ran out of fuel on the way in.
Anybody remember it and know what really happened?
This is her being towed in from the desert, taken from out by pylon 4.

That's the story that was going around at the time.

I heard they flew in from Stockton CA with minimal fuel ?????

You'd think they would have calculated in some extra fuel as reserve instead of "barely enough".

They got lucky Hungry Valley had some nice flats to make a emergency landing in. Glad no one got hurt.

I used to know a couple guys that flew a B-25. Got a couple rides before I decided the condition of the aircraft was "marginal" at times...
The local airbase would fuel you for showing up at their show. They would defuel the plane then fly it the few miles to the show. For a few days after, that thing was always in the air!

Strictly a case of greed in the Rickett's crew's part. Run it down to the bare minimum....all the more fuel that RARA would fill the tanks with on their dime.

            Slight miscalculation.

I'm betting that the cost of repairs was more than the tank of gas was gonna be worth.

To the best of my knowledge, Ricketts never flew it to an airshow again. They put a solid nose on it to get it back to Stockton, and eventually sold it off.

Too bad. It was a beautiful airplane.

I have shots of it with the solid nose on at Reno.
Did it ever fly as Dream Lover later under a new owner? I seem to remember pictures of it in Air Classics and thinking it had been rebuilt to it's former self at some point.
                  Sure was a shiny B-25.

If I recall it never flew again with them. At some point the Whittington's bought it, and turned it around rather quickly. Since the early '90's it's been flying as "Old Glory", still in the same basic paint scheme, just different nose art.

That's it, the nose art is very close (in shape and colors).
                      Thanks!
