While I agree that all of Strega's troubles put him on the outside on that start, if he (and the others) had not been so FAR outside (per Dudewannarace's comments) it would have been a totally different race.
Stevo was in the perfect start slot and his skill did the rest, keeping him out there after the start.
It was just a "hard luck" year for the red.
