    Sukhoi at Hawthorne

They also brought a Sukhoi SU-27 Flanker to the Air Show at Hawthorne, California, fromthe Ukraine some ten years ago. Impressive straight up climb from the runway to 14,000 feet over Los Angeles.

The Russians have been confining their activities and staying away from a series of Air Shows in the west due to some legal action against them and a company trying to confiscate their aircraft as payment over an alleged debt.

      Sukhoi SU-27's, SR-71

There were Russian jets at both Seattle and the Hillsboro OR air shows a few years ago; I think the same year the goodwill games were in Seattle.

I also was at the Abbotsford Canada airshow the year both the Snowbirds, the Blue Angels and a Russian jet team was there. Some of the memories I have from that show includes the Russian team announcer; he commented over and over again that he never thought this could happen; some of the Russian support staff selling those nested dolls, and that the Russian pilots typically had fewer flying hours than the Blue Angel or Snowbird pilots.

I think this was also a show where a Blue Angel flew as a co-pilot in a Mig 29, and a Russian flew as a co-pilot in a Blue Angels plane.

In the late 1970's, I was at a Point Mugu CA air show, where an SR-71 after a couple of low passes, turned and made a full afterburner climbout to altitude (I assume heading back to Redding; it at least flew off in that direction).

        SR-71 at Reno

I had processed some pictures for a friend of an SR-71 that overflew the Reno Air Races a number of years back -- anyone remember the year?

          Don't count Waynerz out...

Learning things about the show every day...wait until tomorrow...you will be blown away with a special formation I don't even think Wayner's knows about...he, he, I love surprises!
I'm betting he does...he gets a 6:00 a.m. brief. If its not the one inbound from Reno-Stead, you might surprise him...

            Russians in Cleveland...

Maybe eight years ago, the Russians had two SU-29 in Cleveland and did the "cobra" ... they also "sold several rides for $500 (or so I heard that was the amount). When they had more takers than they could handle, they said they would continue to give rides at their next show... somewhere in midwest... I was tempted... but then the FAA got into the act and stopped them. Let no good act go unpunished... Howard.

Didn't see it on Saturday. What ever it was it never showed, or it was so stealthy no one saw it.

                    Super shots, Tyson

Wow! Great light, great framing, great backgrounds, great exposures: just superb.

What were you flying in for the shoot? Were you shooting through glass/plexi or out in the air?

Yep, when I picked Brian up at Boulder airport on Monday evening, when he flew in with that Seneca, we were talking about photo missions and I mentioned John Parker's airplane... also a Seneca.... frankly, I did not recognize Brian's airplane as one at that time, because it had the doors on...

Now it looks like a Seneca!

They are a great platform, with the exception that you can only shoot clear through the left side, and, the fact that the engine puts out a "heat signature" that you have to watch out not to shoot through or you'll get an "out of focus" stripe through your shots.

I'm jealous Ty... next year, you get to set up tables and I get the shoots!!!
