  • Pitching Deck

    Heres another interesting Vimeo vid.

I never thought our xxl aircraft carriers would pitch this much. And too think pilots would attempt landings, absolutely crazy.

Half way through the vid they attempt landings at night???? Very intense to say the least.

    Nerves of steel.

      Re: Pitching Deck

During a dependents cruise from Hawaii to SD aboard the U.S.S. Ranger in 91, one boring afternoon while in northern pacific waters (headed to Was. state to fly off the squadrons based there) a group of us sat in pri-fly and after a lot of observation and calculation decided we were pitching about 40-60 feet average at the bow.
One had to be VERY careful walking around the ship and time your passing from deck to deck. Stepping down a ladder ate wrong time would find you either crumpled on the deck below as the ship rose to meet you or suspended in mid air as it dropped away.
After several sessions on the LSO platform, one at night, while they "practiced" during the trip, yeah, their nerves are stronger than steel.
