A Cherokee isn't so bad... Hasn't the Bearcat wing has been compared to a Piper Cub?

Gear is longer so it allows for a bigger prop.

          Now we're talking!

          Loving this thread..

I was really hoping to see some of these items revisited, when Smoot did the wing build on CM a few years back.

If memory serves me correctly it was brought up however changing the airfoil would have required ground up engineering.
All ribs, control surfaces, gear wells, any tanks etc would have to be re-designed and rebuilt and that is assuming that the spars and gear attach hardware could be re-used.

Just stand it on its tail and launch like a Convair Pogo... :-)

                Re: A question about Furias

I stop by the Sanders facility once a month, my pictures go back about 11 years at Ione. I watched them build, paint and test Furias, I also watched the life of 232. I wish she would have flown, and raced with the best, we will never know.

My thinking is that if Dreadnaught can run at 450, with all the modification they made to Furias she would be pushing 490.

Matt said he over 1000 horse power left, and qualified at 467 at Reno 2012. It is a good debate.

I wonder if she would have been able to attack the 528 record?

I will always remember when I walked in and she was still in the checker blue and white paint scheme, and then how great she looked after the Sanders team did their magic!

                  Re: A question about Furias

I believe that if #8 ever broke a sweat, she could do laps at 470.

                  Furias?

                  Yeah baby...

I disagree. They ran #8 to her limits in the 1980s, and got 455 or so, with both Neil Anderson and with Rick Brickert. If it had 470, we would have seen it then...

You did see it then Neal...

If there was a so called 'optimum race path' calculation in the 80's..it would put them at 470 and change.

Good point, Joseph. I hadn't thought of that aspect of things...

                          That's one option.

Another would be to add a cuff to the leading edge.

Or graft an existing wing to the Yak fuselage (which may require some tail mods, too).

None would be easy. But probably necessary for Czech Mate to go any faster reliably.

And that was with the tail wheel hanging.
