Helps if you log in before posting.

Just another pilot who can't figure out the computer

Here's a shot from Breckenridge, "Cottonmouth" in front with "Southern Cross" in the background.

The new owner of Cottonmouth is a guy out of Key West, FL. I have not met him, and don't know if he has any plans to race.

Welcome to the message board Steve! For the entire history of this message thing, we've had it totally open for anyone (logged in or not) to post. I had to watch my email pretty close sometimes to keep any nonsense filtered out. Actually now, with it set for unlogged posts to be emailed to me for approval, I actually have to watch all that much closer

Did see your messages last evening when I checked in for a minute and got them validated.

Again, WELCOME to the message board! I look forward to meeting you at Reno this year. Will you be at PRS?

        Re: Forgotten Sea Fury

I would like to come to PRS this year, but I doubt I can be ready by then. Nelson is finishing work on Cottonmouth (probably another 3 or 4 weeks), then I'll fly dual in her with Stew Dawson before going solo in Southern Cross. After that I want to get 50 or so hours under my belt, (getting to know the plane, more formation flying, acro). I think John Penney told me you need at least 50 hours in type for PRS anyway.

In the meantime I'm just flying my T-6 a bunch trying to knock the winter rust off (not the airplane, me). I've been doing too much L-39 driving this last year, and the T-6 is reminding me that it knows more about taildraggers than I do.

I am planning on flying Southern Cross out to Reno in Sept. with Nelson, Stew and Howard just because I can't think of anything more fun except actually getting to race. I'm that airport kid by the fence who dreamed, but never really imagined, he'd ever get to do something like this.

Is this a great country, or what!!!

          Aint it the truth!!!!

Even if not ready, I bet you'd have a ball at PRS! Likely, you'd get some back seat time as well with someone..

Even if not, it's a great time there, WAY less pressure and much looser than Reno in Sept...

Looking forward to seeing you Steve!

I would say the new guy is good for a few rounds at the Pylon Bar. Not buying mind you, but good for a few rounds

I was only at Reno on Sunday last year, as Lud Corrao had a T-28 and L-39 formation event at his place in Carson City. But, I'll be there all week this year.

I guess I could always race the L-39 this year? What did they have, only 4 planes in 2003? Well, it is about as exciting as cloud watching.

Here's a photo for Jeff. I put the red star on that Thumper didn't like.

Here it is before the star just south of Hollister, CA. What is interesting about this photo is what it was like to get the shot. Thumper and I went out, him in the L-39, me in my Pitts S1S taking photos. Talk about dissimilar aircraft. He was going about as slow as he liked without flaps, and I was turning something like 2900 RPM to keep with him, all the while trying to hold formation with one hand and shooting with the other. I remember this flight every time I see the scratches on the inside of my canopy from the knurled filter ring on the front of my camera bouncing off the canopy as I tried to keep formation and fly through the bumps. I was surprised we got as many good shots as we did on that flight. Next time, we're using something with more than one seat for the photo plane!

The only way it is "as always", is because I don't show you all of the ugly ones that come out of the camera!

                          Re: Forgotten Sea Fury

I remember that photo from Greg's house. I also remember how we commented on his great formation skills (namely the ability to fly element with his head buried in the cockpit).

The plane still has his and Mary's N number. Of course N333MF is fondly known as triple 3 Mother F***er around here.

The Sea Fury is also keeping it pre-moritorium N number of N71GB. Almost like having a certified airplane!

Anyway, thanks for the pic Jeff.

Steve, check the "remember me" box (I think that's what it says) and it should keep you logged in via a cookie that it will send any computer you're on. Next time you visit, you *should* automatically be recognized.

I didn't write this software, I just muddle along trying to understand it and keep on top of it so, don't feel bad!!

                                Wayne,

I think you do a really nice job with this site, and I'm glad I found it now as I'm sure it get's alot busier as Reno approaches.

BTW, who's L-39 is that you're sitting in?
