Further, WW I aircraft are not really slow controllable aircraft as they ran at full throttle all the time. Some had vicious stall and slow flight characteristics.

Hummn... interesting discussion.. Could we consider the Goodyear Blimps "warbirds" or, at least the blimps that were used in WWII??

They flew and they flew in the service of the military... Last one I saw was pretty dern slow....

Enjoyed the article on your PBY flight experience.

The PBY has long been on my "To build" list. (Radio control scale), right after I manage to finish a 1/9th scale version of my Dad's plane - a Navy E-2 Hawkeye. It ain't the real deal, but it's been a 4 year project and once it's done I will fly it with pride!

This thread has taken some interesting twists starting from a request for an online article up to the eliminating habits of a carrier pigeon ...but that is what threads are for, aren't they?

Anyways, if this discussion continues, lets eliminate single engines and lift enhancing devices like flaps, LE slats/slots, and helium...........
