I think I even know what race that picture is from...just from the color of the sky.

I have a photo in my collection of that happening, taken about where the staging area for the Bipes and Formulas are these days, where he is at a 45 degree angle with his left wingtip (I'm not kidding) about two feet off the ground....and he's got to be still going 120 mph.

Also have a few friends who were farther down on the ramp that day who still respond in colorful expletives that I would not use around my mother when that pilot and incident is brought up.

The ramp landing was in 1981 right? Landed 18 and used it all up, then hung a crazy low level turn to land on the ramp.

We were standing out on the ramp looking at a beautiful Curtiss that was sitting there when he made that turn onto the ramp. I snapped one shot of him head on, then realized we were about to get flattened. Kind of a Chinese fire drill with all of yelling " OH %^$#" and running for cover.
I haven't scanned any 81 stuff yet.

Yikes. Lots of puckered butts involved with that moment, I'm sure. Not sure if I was there or not. If I was, I was out on the fence running around like a little 8yo.
