    Re: Operation Saving Reno

There are supposed to be 4,000 school kids attending the NCAR, beginning with a 40 minute mandatory classroom session in the Heritage area, arranged through the efforts of "Pathways To Aviation", the organization formerly known as the RARA Foundation.

      Re: Operation Saving Reno

Race fans need to stay at Stead. Everything needs to be provided for them there, sleeping areas, food, entertainment etc. Just like the casinos. They don't want you to leave their building and go elsewhere so they provide everything you need at one location.

4,000 school kids is a "huge" number. Who ever manages that program did an excellent job. I'd like to see what they are exposed to in their 40 minute classroom session. I assume it's about flying and the physics of why airplanes fly.

Excellent! We need more ways to introduce them to aviation.

Kudos to the southwest pilot in the following article/video. He made a kid's day. We often don't know how far a smile or wave will go.

            Re: Operation Saving Reno

I received a Private Message from a member who recommended that I write RARA an email and make my suggestions directly to them. I have done that in the past and never received a reply. I understand that RARA is busy, but so is most American people. Maybe Wayne, the website owner could make a section on this website specifically for RARA and they could have one of their employees/volunteers to respond to our comments so all aafo viewers could see them. I understand that many matters should be handled in private and many in public. I think this should be public. I can imagine all the home owners who don't want race planes flying over their homes making their opinions known but they have a right to their opinions just like we do.

              Re: Operation Saving Reno

The best thing anyone can do right now to "fix" Reno is to show up. Come to the races, support the event with your $$$. Everything else is secondary.

Have you been to Stead? Where exactly are all the fans going to stay? Job Corps campus?

This was a funny one , I mean getting everyone to stay somewhat like Oshkosh isn't a bad idea but I think there are much more important things to get done, and having the casinos involved is a really big part.

The RV lots are a great way to go if you can swing it. This gives you access to the ramp/pits during off hours. As a local, my favorite part of Race Week is cruising the pits during off hours. You can mingle with pilots and crew members and it's just a chill atmosphere.

This is excellent. It should also be mandatory that all school kids memorize the sound and smell of an R-3350 starting

Check out the taxi way to runway 8. South of the taxi way is like to eights side by side. Any idea what that is or was for?

Not sure of primary purpose but they do park a lot of the GA aircraft there during Race Week.

This was, I think, intended to be a new set of hangars. If I remember correctly that area was cleared and the paving done just before the Great Recession. Nothing has been done since that I know of. During past races there have been some airplanes parked in the area.

That's correct. Neal. Area is used to park Guardian One, C-130, Breitling Helo, and other transient and support A/C during Race Week. Might be another Helo there this year as well. Not sure if it's been publicized here or anywhere else for that matter so can't reveal any info but it's a positive sign.
