  • Rare Bear Questions

Has anyone tried to research the prehistory of the Bear?
I know it crashed in '62, was it raced before that?
Who was the previous owner and are there any photo's of it, pre-'62?
Does anyone know the original serial#, not the N#

Everytime I see that picture I just have to marvel at the skills of warbird restorers.

Anybody watch the History Channel's thing on "Glacier Girl" the other night?

Yeah, and I bought the museum's book and DVD, too. What a story; as the History Channel program made abundantly clear, the recovery and restoration was anything but straightforward.

I thought it was interesting that project manager Bob Cardin stated twice on camera (on the day of the first flight) that the only thing he was worried about was whether they'd got the aerodynamics right.

Anybody else notice how much better was Steve Hinton's landing in the P-38 than his earlier landing arriving in Middleboro in a C182? He absolutely greased Glacier Girl on in front of that big crowd. Full marks, Steve.
