Years ago, their was a Mustang Club at Oakland, I believe they were at Tracy for awhile too. A friend of mine belonged to it, I remember it was $60 an hour to fly it. I don't know remember the cost to join........of course avgas back then was probably around 40 cent a gallon too.

As my mother tells the story, one day my father said to her that he was going to form a 'flying club' that would purchase a Mustang. He'd be the president and run the club with out having to 'buy in'. My mother thought he was dreaming. Three weeks later, he had the people and bought the plane.

FYI, that "location unknown" for picture #1 is the west end of Reno-Stead. The Lear hangar seen in the photo is now used by the Sport class in September.

That is awesome! I love the roll pleats on the canopy.

And not to forget, the paint job it wore prior to the white/ blue one.



I still remember the carb air scoop from N511D hanging in Roy Mabee's hangar at Chino some 25 years ago. That was my introduction to him at the time.

Yes, the "Mustang Club", aka California Warbirds, is still active and operating out of Hollister. Originally started by John Crocker and later included Dan Martin.

I can remember back when they were operating from San Jose Muni, from a tarmac between runway 30R and the main taxiway.

They sure had some ugly paint schemes back then...

Or on the other hand, boringly similar today...
