T-6 Saturday fast Heat

From the results looks like a Humdinger! Very fast with the first two almost side by side. I'd like to see photos of this -- could be some of the week's great pictures.

The surprise is in the first two leaders. It would be expected to be Nick and Dennis Buehn. Instead second is Chris Rushing -- running faster than his qualifying speed, and in fact the fastest he's run all week. Dennis was 10 seconds back -- a lot in T-6 racing.

Nick is going to have to be at the top of his game to take another Gold.

And then the results page says results are under protest. Anybody know who is protesting who, and why? There's gotta be a story there...

Could have something to do with Rushing's pass on Buehn. Looked like a very dangerous pass with Rushing going blind shadowing Buehn. I think Dennis backed off in the interest safety.

Jim, it was GREAT to see you, I only wish I didn't have to rush off! I'm hoping we can run into each other again... are you going to the "banquet"??

That could explain Dennis's rather distant third. Kind of difficult to race hard, if you think you came close to not being there at all. Interesting then, that the protest was not upheld. Did Rushing seem to pass on the inside? Where on the course was this?

Rushing sure went fast. Sounds like he finished very close to Macy.

First turn, lap 2 (or maybe lap 1). Dennis went into the turn ahead of Chris, a little high and on the inside, then slid down into the low groove. Chris, slightly higher than Dennis and on the outside, also came down overtaking Dennis and ending up canopy to belly with him, then proceeded to continue a pass going blind with Dennis, and also blind with the third pylon. When Chris emerged in front of, and under Dennis' plane, and entered Dennis' visual area, Dennis immediately backed off to get out of the way. I don't know why Chris was not called for that move, nor why a protest (assuming one was filed) was not upheld. Pretty clear what happened, dangerous, and inexcusable.

...and Chris goes on to win the Gold. Who decides protests these days -- the event contest committee or is there a class contest committee to deal with something like this?

That Gold Race must have been a sight to see! I hope some of our pylon photographers got shots from that one. When I was shooting I just lived for races like that one.

Did the Gold look safely flown?

Chris trailed Nick the whole race, made a couple of runs on him then came off the last pylon, went wide, and nipped him at the home pylon. Won by .015 second.
