  • Prop identification?

A friend picked up these and what looks like a mustang spinner at an estate sale/auction.

    They are 84 inches long.

    Some numbers............

    DWG 6491A-6S
    2 B5 -37297
    MFG 280026 CONT. AC28744

    3/4 scale mustang spinner?

    Re: Prop identification?

    Decoded the numbers a little.

    Hamilton standard hydromatic..........likely 23e50.

    6491A is the shape/type/aluminum

-6 means six inches less than the 6491a-0 which is zero inches shorter than the standard diameter of 15 feet 2 inches.

That makes a -6 to be 8 inches bigger in diameter than the F2G which used a -14.

Likely from one of these or possibly the C69 constellation.

Tips look different than the C-123 shown.

In relation to the C-123 photo.

That particular aircraft was owned/operated by Aviation Classics at Stead, starred in Die Hard 2 and Con Air. I had the privilege of sitting right seat for a short hop shortly before it left for Con Air filming.

Not too long after it was sold to a freight company in Alaska, In 2010 suffered from what NTSB claimed was a stall resulting in a fatal crash killing all 3 on board.

      Still miss that airplane.

Yes, however they only worked in flat, inverted spins below 1200' AGL
