What do you think the chances are that Voodoo will break the record??

Personally, I think it's very good. She's turned 500 +/- on the course, so I would think a straight line speed of an additional 35mph or so should be well within reach..............I know mechanical problems are always looming, but hopefully the'll be minimized by the preparations that have been performed.

I think the chances of Voodoo breaking the record are very good. Biggest obstacle would be a mechanical issue.

That's why I put +/- 500 mph.

When MJ did the kamikaze dive onto the course and the canopy on Strega said adios he was running about where they need to be to reset this record.

All of the top Unlimited's usually run around 500 give or take on the first lap down the chute. I think the chances of breaking it are very high. New wing made for this, canopy, prop, and a very well-tuned engine program I imagine. Plus Stevo has been practicing the past 2 weeks for this so he should be ready. Also think about the mods V has had since 2013. Scoop, thrust line, those haven't really been proven yet at least with a fresh engine to go along with them.

She's well capable of 550-560mph range on the 3km course. Most people don't realize the great difference between straight/level, and lap speeds. Shouldn't even be compared.

If he breaks the record, which I'm hoping he does.............it will probably be a long time if ever it's broke again. Don't see to many hot rod Piston engine, Prop driven airplanes out their capable of that kind of speed, let alone someone interested in trying. GOOOOOOoooooooooo Steveo and Voodoo.

I think that most people on this board understand the difference between a 3km straight run and Reno lap speeds. No biggie though.

Where I was going with this is

Scoop, thrust line, those haven't really been proven yet at least with a fresh engine to go along with them.

I still don't think we have seen Rave V's full potential at Reno yet, so we (on the outside) don't know. Hence my intial post.

Having said all that, we all know that the Stevo and Team Voodoo know what they are doing and would not be in Idaho now if they weren't confident they can succeed. So I would say chances of success are very high, barring mechanical problems.

I think we are all rooting for them and hope for a positive result. Faster the better. This would be a nice feather in Team Voodoo's collective cap. Who knows, it might spur a response from the other mustang camp, and that too would be a good thing. )

I think someone or some people that are interested in the 3K record is the Tsunami camp. I know that this is a ways off, but, who knows. If that project comes together, that aircraft was designed for the 3K.

I would like to just put out there something that has been overlooked as the endeavor has played out with this 3km attempt. This was Bill Kerchenfaut's idea. This was his suggestion, some of the mods that were slowly being done over the course of a couple of years were all from his urging. His services were deemed no longer required before they came to fruition, however.

His name seems to be lost in all this, and I think it's important that in spite of all the effort that the current team is putting forth on making this happen, that Kerch's contributions leading up to this not be forgotten.
