We had some fun out there. Gentleman in the hut is Dick Manning. One of the funniest guys I've ever met who could tell story after story that would have you in stitches. He actually spent a year stationed at RTS when it was the Army Air Base and training center.

Here's a few behind the scenes from the Tower. The magnetic white board is how we keep track the status of all aircraft. Each class of racer has its own color of magnet; the columns are "Taxi, Take-Off, Que, Course, Cool, Land, and the "M" word. It's sort of like the old flght strips for ATC. Every time a racer calls the Tower, his/her number slides along from one column to another accordingly. We sit four across in the "Pit": Local controller on the left, back up to their right (pictured), Ground, then Performer controller. Constantly handing off RWY, TWY, and airspace depending on what's going on.

Works really well. Especially important with classes like T-6 who are constantly bouncing up and off the course and returning and have limits on number of A/C on the course at one time.

And yes...it can get a bit crazy up there...

Wishing everyone a safe July 4th.

Heres a red, white and blue shot with a touch of vitamin C.

                  Stay safe my friends.

Indeed! Happy Birthday, One and All.

Generally not a huge Neil Diamond fan (though it was the first concert I took a date on back in...oh, nevermind!)
