Well, it's ugly as hell, there's no question about that!

But it works a charm! Actually, I'll mess with the color settings and some other little "bugs" in it but this thing is so cool for the image uploads, I had to grab it and update the "old" board software even before this version is "gold".

There could be a few little "issues" that might show their heads but, it's reputed to be pretty stable and with few of those issues left.

The best thing about this new update, it works together with the underlying "stuff" on the server and automatically resizes the images and makes a separate "thumbnail" image that is then linked to the full size one. Also, you can upload up to ten images per message and they will line up nicely across the body of the message.. sort of a little mini gallery!

If you guys add comments to the messages that you post images to, with a little about what airplane it is, or airplanes they are, then this will go into the database also and will make your image pages searchable..

Have fun. Upload as you see fit... keep it to a dull roar (we've got lots of space but, please try to keep it within reason if possible )

I've got to get some sleep but just couldn't resist putting this sucker up now, buttugly colors and all..

I think it is a better look, and must be more user friendly for "poor old" dial up users....keep this look...starting to get use to the feel already.

Eeeuuuwwww! The colors are so.... well... hey, just because they were allowing same sex marriages up here for a few days don't mean we gotta have "gay" color scheme does it????

Could use a bit more color in the little smilie things too.

Did I mention I really like the thumbnail thingie!

It is really awesome - great job. I kinda agree with you - the "pastel look" has gotta go. I'd go darker blue in the headings & such, and deffinatly change the smilies back to their more colorful selves

Actually, I HATE all those shades of blue on monitors... My favorite color of car was my old 914, and it *was* blue but I have decended into a world of "shades of gray" in my old age

As you can tell by current mods, I don't have the greatest sense of style when I can't see what I'm doing, as I'm doing it... (I have no idea how people write raw code with ZERO visual reference!) but it's, at least, better than what we started with.. unfortunately, the available choices of colors in the basic color box (too many choices otherwise!) have made my color scheme awfully close to a certain other VB3 board that I know of

Still finding all the bits of this darn pastel blue theme!!

I think I'll have to do a screen shot, then pull it into a graphic editor and do some color replacements to really go anywhere with it.. but then like I said on the phone. I spent all of about 15 minutes with the old board colors, got bored and moved on!

As long as it is readable and does not hurt anyone's eyes.. I'm probably gonna stop soon!

So far I like it Wayne and I just might "fill you hard drive with images". I was wondering if we could perhaps, up the images to 900 across and maybe 200-250 kb? I know this might make some dial up users cry but now they can see the pic BEFORE they download. Whud cha tink?

HA! Well, the spell checker thing is a point of contention with many of us who pay for this software annually to keep it up-to-date.. They (Jelsoft) claim (read that... whine) that is is toooo harrrrrd to impliment, however, there are some "hacks" that impliment that feature.. What I'll do is wait for the release version (gold) of this boardware, then look into adding the spellchecker option..

Now, on the image sizes... Here's how I've got it set right now to keep it all in some sort of perspective, at least until we see how this all goes.

Registered users get (currently) 10 megs of space.. At which point, if you want to add more images, you'll have to go back and delete some of your images from previous posts.. I have to manage my own hard drive at home in order not to fill it up and I'm thinking it's not an unreasonable thing to hope that the users of the image post system here would want to do the same.

On the image size thing, I'd probably be inclined to keep it just slightly below 800 due to the fact that (unfortunately) the marjoity of the world is still using 800x600 as their browser resolution.. It is changing as newer computers with larger monitors have their default setting up to, at least, 1024x768.. but...

Now, here's a question that has crossed my mind as I explore the board software, it has some really interesting options.. One is an expanded set of "usergroup" options.

It also has the option to "subscribe" to certain features for a fee. I know some of you are paying for web space elsewhere for your images...

You're paying somebody else to host images, we're giving you (for now, we may decide to increase it) 10 megs of space.. We're hungry for operating expenses...... You active photo guys will pretty likely want more, some of you, a LOT more.

The question would be.. For a given amount of space for images, would any of you that are paying elsewhere be interested in subscribing for, say 100mb or greater space for a nominal annual fee??

I seriously doubt that we'd ever generate much funding by doing this but if it paid for the fee for this board and maybe some of the bandwidth/storage space fees for this server, it'd go a long way to make me a happy camper I'll tell ya!

(looks in empty wallet, thinks about monthly stipend from pension which will never grow.... )

Anyway... some thoughts to mull over..

For all of us using this I guess.. Keep the suggestions/requests coming.. it's all getting digested..

PS... I've currently got ALL GUEST/UNREGGED posts set to "moderate" meaning, those few of us who are currently tagged as moderators will see/approve/delete ALL unregged messages PRIOR to them being in public view.

I think this is going to go a LONG way toward making this place more peaceful and.. letting me sleep at night and not have to get up every few hours to check this damn thing for some abusive carp that someone had decided to share with us...

Gonna ask you guys a lot of questions and try to get everyone's opinions.. I leased the original Vbulletin software because it was way more versitle than the old system we used waaaay back, I've now spent a totally sleepless night upgrading this one, and it's a LOT more versitile than the old version of this software!

From the admin/moderator point of view, it's wonderful.. I LOVE the image thumbnail thing, absolutely LOVE it.

Well I rather have picture than correct spelling.

Now about those pics, by going up to 900 is would FORCE people to upgrade to a 1024+ world. I would very much consider having paying to have an image archive. As it is, I have already over 5 MB of photos on the site, so I'll need more than 10MB especially if you up the image size.

BTW, I don't mean to whine too much about the 600, I'm gald we can post pictures at all!

I'm REALLY TIRED today, so not thinking too clearly. Yesterday was a marathon in front of the monitor with three separate projects, last one was this board.. I got to sleep at somewhere after 8:00AM, then got up at 11:30Am or so.. I'm running on "Reno Sleep" levels.. zzzz

Pretty buzzed about the new board stuff tho so having fun... Outta smokes (still Markers!! ) So I gotta get off to the store soon!!

LOL.. that's cause, due to the fact that I did NOT want to do another database backup/restore.. due the the fact that the old board database formatting is slightly different and it's a royal PITA moving it over to this one... I decided to get it working, and let it fly..

The changes will be, "on the fly" also..

Mark Kallio has had this version of the message board running for a fair amount of time and I'll be leaning on him for advice (so he can "pay me back" for all the server admin time lately )

Again, I'm runnin on "empty" as far as sleep goes, so I'm probably going to limit what I do until I get rested. Mistakes are hard to fix sometimes and much easier to make when I'm tired!!
