Race 6 has flown for the first time since 2017. When I asked Dusty how he liked it the reply was "Well it ain't your grandmother's D model" and then followed with "Ya its pretty sporty and super light"
Well done Dusty, can't wait to see you on the ramp in September.
Can't wait to hopefully get another ramp shoot. The pics i posted are from 2017 (obviously) I wish I had been in Kansas to shoot the flight today however.

I've only seen the name of this plane on here so please enlighten my ignorant questions. Is this an A,B or C model Mustang? Having read there are some mods to it why only a 3 blade prop if it has a hotted up mill in it? Thank you.

Its an A model with an Allison, but with a D wing (Its a better design). There are not really any mods on it, just less weight. A military spec A model was 8600 lbs, a D model was 9800. You take the armor off and you lose more weight. (I'd assume most Mustangs have shed their armor long ago) Attention to detail has been at the forefront of the work done on it since 2017.
Its not a gold heat racer, infact its not a racer at all, but Dusty's real racer isn't done and he really wants to support the races, and really wants to go racing again so he's bringing this out this year. Its a stunning airplane in person and it will be fantastic to see it on the ramp in September.
Used to be green and I think owned by Jerry Gabe.
Crew told me the turtledeck and canopy were added to make it look like an A model.
Could be wrong, it's been a while.

The only thing not A model now is the wing. There was a huge amount of corrosion found after Dusty bought it. That necessitated the full restoration. The D wing was kept because it had stronger landing gear (I think, can't remember) but aside from that its a true A model.
