  • Reno 2022 Draft Schedule

I received an early-ish version of the Reno 2022 schedule and was asked not to share in it's entirety just yet, but can share some of the highlights/changes this year for anyone working on their race week agenda -

*Monday - Sunday all begin at exactly 7:30 A.M.*

Sunday - Practice and final PRS certification as usual
    Monday - Qualifying Day 1
    Tuesday - Qualifying Day 2
Wednesday - This is where the changes start, as of right now there will be NO QUALIFYING on Wednesday. This will likely remain the case. We dive straight into racing on Wednesday morning. The first Unlimited Heat (Bronze 1C), as well as ALL Jet and Sport Heats will be on Wednesday (Yes, first Sport Gold Heat 1A is on Wednesday).
Thursday - Business as usual, Unlimited Bronze 2C as well as Silver 1B. Sport Gold will NOT be racing on Thursday.
Friday - Business as usual, Unlimited Silver 2B, Gold 1A, and Sport Gold 2A.
Saturday - Business as usual, ALL Unlimited Races (Bronze Trophy race, Silver Heat 3B, and Gold Heat 2A). Sport Gold 3A.
Sunday - Business as usual, Unlimited Silver and Gold Trophy, Sport Gold Trophy.

    Key takeaways:
-Unlimiteds get 2 races per day except Saturday when all 3 race.
-Sport Gold races everyday except Thursday.

Also noting that LROD/finish times are earlier than previous years as well. If anything changes slightly it would be this, so just for reference as of now:
    Wednesday - 4:00 P.M.
    Thursday - 4:10 P.M.
    Friday - 3:50 P.M. (!!!)
    Saturday - 4:40 P.M.
    Sunday - 4:15 P.M.

I hope we don't see a sudden burst in fire bomber activity. They past couple of years were extremely tight on qualifying time because of the constant operational conflicts. Without Wednesday qualifying slots, it could get ugly.

Good point. It seems like the area has been pretty lucky so far this year. Hopefully that holds a few more weeks...

Yep, and if we can get through the rest of this heatwave the next few days we should be smooth sailing. Fingers crossed.

Mosquito Fire is now a factor. Unless it really blows up, it wont be fought from reno but might be smoky

The last two mornings have been filled with heavy smoke here in Auburn, CA. This fire will affect the races one way or another, be it in air quality or tanker operations. It's a bad one, in steep, rugged terrain, and will burn for some time. I am contracted to both CalFire and PG&E, and odds are good that I will end up in it sooner than later. Now I hope it won't keep me from being able to go to the races.

                          Re: Reno 2022 Draft Schedule

Luckily the wind seems to be blowing directly to the east during the day, and to the west overnight so the smoke looks to be staying away from KRTS. Tanker ops could still disrupt things, but that's better than smoke.

Now 16K acres, no containment. Firefighting weather gets better (cooler) starting tomorrow without much wind forecast for the week.

Not that it really means anything for the races, but Boise is socked in with smoke today. But half our damn state is on fire right now!
