I think there were actually two different props that USPS built for Tiger. The one in the pictures is from 1995. The 1996 version was trimmed-down a bit more with slightly different shaped blades, and had red, black, and polished tips.
If it wasn't two different props, it was modified/changed between 1996 and 1996.
that is a wicked looking prop..... i vaguely remember seeing something on the old pylon 1 website about the tiger claw prop being semi scimtar design.. i think tiger may have run it 96, but there wasnt enough of a gain.. as the design was supposed to allow the merlin to run higher rpm & mp, and keep the prop at about the same rpm....
maybe those who know a bit more than my memory can recall can shed some light?

I guess it's just an exceedingly expensive wall hanging now...
Not my photo, obviously...but since I kept the copyright in it I hope it's okay for 'documentation' purposes.
You can plainly see that there is a difference in shape of the blades...but as I've been trying to figure out what the difference is, it appears that the '95 version has a great big cuff on it that runs down the bottom 2/3 of the blade down to the shank? Maybe? It's not there on the shot from '96, which was taken at Shafter in the spring. Perhaps it was removed, or the blade was shaved or re-tapered?
Interesting shot -- I'd never seen that before. Kerch doesn't look too happy! I don't think this version ever actually made it to Reno, did it? Any idea what the problems were?

Testing/qualifying at Reno 1996.
I have asked Bill Kerchenfaut about it in the past and he said that in his personal opinion the prop showed potential, but they never really devoted enough testing to it to shake it out.
