I went to A&P school at Tulsa Technology Center and we had one running R-3350 with PRTs and one running R-4360, and one nonrunning 4360. They are truely impressive engines. Running those on test stands was the most exciting part of my schooling there.

My uncle has a running 4360. He wants to be able to start it up but doesnt want to prop it out. What were you guys using to give the motor something to spin?

On the big radials we had a test club, which was actually a c-130 4 blade prob cut down for ground clearance while on the stand. the prop was fixed pitch. we had to move the prop from engine to engine when we wanted to fire up the other ones it was kind of a pain but it was well worth it.

Mike Bogue used to run one at Eagle's Nest in California.
No prop at all. Something about 1000 pounds of rotating mass already installed.

You could run without prop but then no cooling air. The only thing that limited our run times were the oil temps. I think they now have oil coolers.

Too bad that wasn't off of a L-1649. It'd have a nice racing nose case.
