This Just In - RARA Drops Jet Racing For 2006 - Unconfirmed!!
Re: This Just In - RARA Drops Jet Racing For 2006 - Unconfirmed!!
If this pans out it'll be good news. the racing was tight for the most part, most of the aircraft were stock, but the racing seemed canned, kind of like watching a yacht race, rarely does the leader loose the race.
Last year the winner modified his jet and smoked all the other racers. Was if fair, NO, the racers and the fans got hosed, and the other owners, crew let them get away with it, Stock anything means that, all engine settings with in factory settings, all incidence angles within limits,
anytime someone changes the limits to gain advantage its called cheating, not racing, racing is reading the rules and then designing or building a racer to the rules of the class.
The jet races did fill a gap by allowing more racing but with no sanctioning body or rules enforcement and a predetermined winner it's not racing, its a parade.

I would think that settings and ajustments would be allowed, and the "stock" rule would only apply to engine or airframe mods and special fuels.
Hmmmmm. Maybe we should direct the rocket-race promoters to the Machbuster. Imagine a whole crop of rocket-powered "lawndarts" screaming around in the sky. Now THAT would be exciting.

Hey Peas... Didn't your brother win a race in one of those?
Jeff: Sho 'nuff! Great Cross Country Air Race, Denver-Jeffco to Oshkosh in June of 1995, I was co-pilot (see photo). Speed was 303 mph, only beaten by two Lancair IVs. It's also a point-to-point speed record -- check your NAA Record books. It required 80% power at FL 230, except for the low-level start for about 25 miles under the Denver Class B airspace at 8 AM on a Monday at a power setting of 32/25, we rattled some shingles!!! Second place in the twin class was a C421 WAY behind. What fun!
BTW, the O2 mask was necessary since this was a 601-B model -- turbos and long wings, but no pressurization. It also had the 350 hp SuperStar motors. Peas

There were actually pylon course air races with Piper Aerostars in Tazmania. I have an information package at home somewhere. I think they ran in the mid 90's.
I would love to see that happen at Reno. Also not stock! Let the mods begin! :-)

Not sure if this is just a tease to get a response or not . If you are really interested in why pip was fast and legal open a new thread in the none but the brave section. For now I just have to say you know not of what you post.

didnt mean to sound like that but at the CJAA dinner on saturday night that was a big part of the conversation, maybe some of the owners got it wrong, I heard he bumped up the fuel control and changed the tail plane incidence to unload the tail? same as flying with an aft CG.
