A long time ago Stead during the Races was more like a temporary village than the crowded urban conglomeration it became in later years. There were mostly just airplanes.
Bucky Dawson and I would go up into the stands Thursday of Race week to drink a beer or smoke a joint and just experience the spectacle of all those wonderful machines spread out before us.
Maybe this can be a quiz question -- name the year. Also -- one of the visible and recognizable airplanes here failed to fly home on Monday. If you can identify this airplane you will know the year...
