A story about Mr Yancy. The first year he came down with the Yak it was bare metal. I was there with Dan Martin and we went over to see him. He needed to put rescue with an arrow next to the canopy, so we found a little brush and some red model paint and I did my impression of an artist and put it on there. He was a very nice man.

I have to say, a spinner on a Corsair just makes the plane look so much better. Without one they look very, well, unfinished. That said, as a military fighter, they look fine, but when it comes to going fast, they look like they are missing something without the spinner.

I hate to interrupt the eye-catching images Neal is posting but perhaps here are a few that will provide another kind of "tit"illation...
This is Bob Mitchem in 1967 arriving... yes arriving... at Reno. He'd flown Big Hummer in from Broomfield, Colorado and made it to Stead... or nearby when a couple connecting rods let go. He did a nice job, landing fast with oil and smoke streaming. But he never even got to qualify for the race. Enjoy this sequence from the Walt Olrich collection...
