Let's hope RARA is seriously working on the travel, lodging, and hospitality aspects of the new location. They just sent out an email marketing packages of hotel stays with tickets to the Reno airshow in October. They better be figuring out where we're all gonna sleep and eat in 2025. Maybe there will be a bunch of super sonic busses running between Albuquerque and Roswell???

We have been attending the Reno air races since 1984. We might be spoiled by just a 3 hour drive to Reno and many hotels, restaurants and many other accommodations just a 10 minute drive to Stead. Currently there around 1034 hotel rooms in Roswell. If you will be flying there Roswell is served by American Airlines with 75 seat aircraft and I would assume as at Stead the airport will be closed to non air race traffic for 2 weeks. The closest major airports are Midland and Lubbock Texas which are around 175 miles away. El Paso and Albuquerque are around 210 miles away. For those of you attending I hope to hear about it and see pictures on this forum as we will not be attending. When I see and hear an Air Race video on the web I feel like I am in mourning. It was a good run.

I saw that. They ignored / got ignored by the hotels for decades when we were racing. Now that it is just an airshow, they suddenly do what they should have been doing.

It really is the case that the hotels/casinos ignored RARA over the years, as did much of the city management. RARA sought their support every year and with a few exceptions and some modest offerings, they were met with a closed door. Not to mention the RTAA was not exactly the best partner here.

Ain't that the truth. Gut tells me it's a ploy by this board member to seek more tax dollars, using the Races as leverage. It'll work out. Might be a little rough around the edges from time to time...

I know this is expecting too much, but it would be neat to see some entrepreneur start up a rv rental service for the week, similar to Oshkosh. Because it's sounding like that's the only way they are going to get a large number of people to stay.

Thought crossed my mind as well. Know it's not a glamorous gig but also thought RV servicing (potable water, gray/black water service, etc), could generate a chunk of change.

I’m driving, in a rented RV. Worked pretty good last year. If anyone thinks 75,000 people are ever coming to Roswell to see an air race they’re cracked. Ought to be fun, like the other than Reno venues in the old days.
