    Re: griffon fury

No argument from me about 'accounting for taste' regarding which was the best looking Fury. Bill Humble, the Hawker test pilot liked the looks of the Sabre engined Fury too....liked flying it as well.

I just happen to like the looks of the Griffon engined one! Very aggresive looking little muthuh!

Hmmmmm... It was the worst preforming of all the test birds. The Griffon was replaced in a very short time.

Everyone has an opinion! Somewhere there is a guy that thinks the Buffalo or Seamew were good lookin'. Now I prefer the Sabre over all other Sea Fury looks. Our new friend here likes the Griffin. Come on now, there are far worse things that a Griffin powered Sea Fury...

Now as far as best looking fighter goes.... would we really have to just pick one?

Hmmmm, you guys are fun...makes a change form all the raving loonies frothing at the mouth about 'which was the best fighter of WWII' on some of the other sites!

Let's stuff a Griffon in a Buffalo and take it to Reno!!.

I am finding it difficult to attach pics in here (we curmudgeonly old boys can't work these new fangled things out)....got some great drawings I'd like to shoe you...I'll give one a try. Here goes.

Drawings of a Sabre engined WWII fighter (fictitious) and Merlin engined racer.

Great! Another lesson learnt! The Sabre engined fighter is depicted in 486 Squadron markings...I took the Meredith radiator to its absolute limit in this design - It can't be seen in this pic.

I found this too, of the Griffon model, the link on its parent page is broken:

A Sabre powered Fury racer would be quite an experience, sight and sound.

That Griff-Fury looks like a Wobegong shark, nose-on.

Pretty nice fish..does it have all the fuel onboard to complete the races and do the take off procedure ? What is the wingspan....is it well tested for torque effect ?

The sleek pusher looks interesting as well....what is the name again ?

Here is what Yaeger might want to incorporate to your Meredith racer tail feathers.... http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/barrier/men.html ...or are the feathers at front ?

Then for the Sabre racer..here are the non flying tail feathers of a 109..little bit of newer trans sonic flight data on it and voila !

                      In the meanwhile.....

                        Re: griffon fury

The drawing of the prop is provisional...I have designed a new kind of propellor with entirely different characteristics to conventional units. Arrived at the design when working on very low signature props for submarines. A lot of the actual driving thrust in my racer would be kicked out of the ducted inner portion of the prop. Even the outer 'blades' are ducted (ringed) and formed to offset the problems of tips going 'supersonic' in the conventional sense. The prop is made of Carbon Fibre and formed to form an entirely new way of generating thrust not prevously applicable to 'conventional' props. My field of work is in Hydrodynamics but I have always seen the merit of 'crossover' concepts in both discplines.
