    Re: Harra's P-82

I understand Bill Harrah's auto museum/collection was sold
Only in part. There is still a fair amount of cars in a new museum down town.
But it is nothing compaird to what it once was.

.that be,is there any other auto museums in the Reno area ?
With the exception of the new Harrahs museum down town, and Hot August Nights... no, or at least not that I know of.

If you go to Reno the first week of August, Hot August Nights is a big (I think the biggest on the west coast) classic car show. If it is a "classic" (20 years or older) and American made, you can bet it will be there.

(as another thing to see while visiting )
Most of the collection was sold off, including 2 Bugatti Royals. The collection trimmed down and focused. Here is a link to the web site.

I know where the Bugatti's are. The Pennington Estate! I saw them when I was doing some fab work there.

The museum link didn't work, but it did after I removed the "AN" from the end of the url. Here's a fixed version:

Here's an interesting tidbit surrounding Harrah's involvement in motorsports.

Did you know that Mira Slovak was single-handedly responsible for Bill Harrah's immediate and permanent 'withdraw' as a sponsor of air racing and hydroplane racing?

            Two words:

            Bobbi Gentry.

              Re: Harra's P-82

Ever heard of the beautiful cabin cruiser that was extremely well planned too be transported up to Tahoe from Reno?. The roof was just finished as brushed stainless steel. I don't remember the exact size of it, but it was big and beautiful. ONly problem was the person who was responsible for the planning of the transport seem to forgot about taking it thru Cave Rock tunnel. The entire roof was completely sheered off... The builder of that roof was my dad. He owned a sheet metal shop in Reno and did a great amount of work for Bill Harrah including flying up to his place in Idaho...Needless to say,, the guy who did the planning and the driver of the truck didn't work there anymore. Well, the saying goes that there are two kinds of women in the world: Those that Mira Slovak has slept with, and those that Mira Slovack WILL sleep with.

Bobbi Gentry, the singer, was Bill Harrah's wife.

Mira Slovak was the driver for the Harrah's Club hydroplane.

                  How's your math, Jim? :-)

I'm assuming your talking about the Thunderbird? Man, I love that machine. One of the most beautiful boats anywhere. Then they fire up the Allisons. Fagetaboutit.
You'll get your chance, smart guy!

Slovack was/is a favorite Hydro pilot of mine.
(was unaware of Bobbie Gentry being Harrah's wife)

Damn pretty boat! I have a love for stainless. The second pic is of a hearth stove I did from hammered stainless. Somebody at Aviation Classics thought that when I said that I did Blacksmith work he assumed I did horseshoes This horseshoe has a white gas flaming waterfall down the glass.

Right now I am in the process of getting my IA so I may just take the year off. The poiltics have me a little turned off right now too. I don't agree with the "it's not real racing... it's just a hobby" outlook that some people have. I have raced something my entire life and just don't see it that way... sorry. The only thing I will be racing this year is my R/C planes I think. Building a 1/4 scale Precious Metal complete with C/R props. That should be at Reno this year. IT"S HUGE!
