    CAUTION! Thread drift ahead.

Since it was brought up, Any guesses as to what aeroplane this boat was designed after?

Well in my opinion it looks more like a DC-3 than a thunderbird.

Looks like a wood boat to me so I'm guessing Spruce Goose.

It wasn't suposed to be but hey, I like it.

So far as the other joke, that aint no joke. B O A T:Break Out Another Thousand. Everything I do to that hole in the water costs a K.

Oh yeah, the Thunderbird. DC 2 was the answer we were looking for. DC 2, yyyyaaaaaa. Sorry, please play again.

Commissioned by George Whittell specifically for Lake Tahoe while he was building his fabulous estate there, the Thunderbird was designed by famed naval architect John L. Hacker and built by Huskin Boat Works in Detroit. Enamored of the lines of his DC-2 aircraft, also named Thunderbird, the eccentric millionaire requested that the hull and cockpit of his new speedboat resemble the fuselage of his personal airplane.
To be quite honest, I really don't know the differences between the DC 2 and the DC 3. So I guess I can give you credit for spotting the DC in it.

The DC-3 was bigger and had more powerful engines.

                      Re: Harra's P-82

I seem to remember having a book that was of the Harrahs collection, and in it, was a picture of a P-82. I remember it being either black or navy blue (Long time ago, early 80s). It had a pic of the p40, a p51D, the tri-motor, and abunch of the cars as well as the Thunderbird boat.
