Re: Tucker Bails - Plane Gone, Sean OK

Actually it may be a different wing entirely. Notice the wingtip design in Vic's first shot compared to yours?

I would love to see the full scale guys get closer to doing some of the wild 3D stuff you se with RC.

Red, you're right. Both wings are different. The '04 shot has clipped tips top and bottom. On Victor's shot, it looks as if the tips have been extended. Notice how the ailerons are notched into the tips.
      No pixels were harmed, honest.

An article at aero-news.net has cleared-up what was meant by "back-up controls"...

"Tucker parachuted from his aerobatic biplane on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 10:45am CDT over the I Hope Plantation farm south of Coushatta, LA. Tucker's biplane suffered a mechanical failure in the elevator control linkage during a practice flight in the aerobatic box at the Coushatta airport.

Following the mechanical failure, Tucker was able to climb the aircraft safely to an altitude of 8,000' using a backup elevator trim handle located in the cockpit.

Re: Tucker Bails - Plane Gone, Sean OK

As I understand the extra flight controls on the wings were inboard ailerons that would allow him better control in the hover.

When I got to wiggle the Challengers stick in the hangar it seemed as tho
they were on a differential control setup in that they didnt have the same amount of response and deflection as the outer ailerons.

The elevator was a whole other issue! It was HUGE and had deflection angle such that I have only seen on my R/C 3D aerobatic planes.

That Sean got out of this as well as he did is a testament to his skill and professionalism.

It will have higher quality elevator torque tubes I imagine...
