  • Airshow Cancelations

I am sad to report that both the Half Moon Bay and Shafter airshows have recently been cancelled. Blame mother nature for Half Moon, and financial resources as the reason for Shafter's cancellation. Bummer!! What else will fall by the wayside this year? We will have to wait and see. Gas prices are NOT going to help matters. That much is certain.

I have it from very good sources......................

That a couple of the warbird operators on Minter Field are in the early planning stages of a BBQ on the weekend of May 13th, 2006

While not an official Minter Field event, I am sure that there will be a few warbirds in attendance, and a good time had by all.

More info to follow in the very near future. RH

Shafter has already scheduled next year's show for 2007. They would have put one on this year but decided to spend the money on long awaited projects the museum has been working on a long time. So it's not as if they didn't have any money and are doing nothing instead. It's made clear in their recent newsletter.

              Re: Airshow Cancelations

The museum made the worst trade possible!!!
One of the most important types of aircraft at Minter Field were the trainers. Hundreds of them were on the field and thousands of pilots trained there during WWll. The museum traded a BT-13 which was to be the gate guardian for the museum for a hulk of a helicopter. They are in the process of restoring another BT-13 to flying condition but the one that was traded could have been on permanent display in front of the museum as a proud reminder of the history of Minter Field and to honor all the pilots who trained there.

              On a brighter note:
There will be a gathering of sorts this year on May 13.
While not an airshow I'm sure there will be a few hangers getting buzzed!
Some Reno racers past and present will be there.
