Could this be the most competitive Unlimited line up in years?? Speeddemon... you're the "unofficial" historian for the sport now... when was the last time we had such a potential linup??

1988 was probably THE definitive year for most competitive line up of all time (as far as POTENTIAL racers that were sitting on the ramp):

1. Super Corsair
4. Dago Red
6. Sumthin' Else
7. Strega
8. Dreadnought
9. Leeward Air Ranch Special
09. Precious Metal
15. Furias
18. Tsunami
19. Vendetta
77. Rare Bear
84. Stiletto
97. Mr. Awesome
101. Perestroika

Those were just the HIGHLY modified racers. There were also Georgia Mae, Pegasus, Old Crow, Miss Ashley, Miss America, and Risky Business in the 'super stock' category.

All told, a field of 44 racers entered. By Sunday, Strega, LARS, Vendetta, and Mr. Awesome were out of the competition. Perestroika and Sumthin' Else were regulated to the Silver final, and only Georgia Mae bumped up from the 'super stocks' to make the Gold.

That is the best field Reno has ever seen. Not the fastest...just the best, with the most potential.

DM's crew is about the only crew (and pilot) that I can think of that will get the most out of DR.

It's not the DR "crew" and package that we all have come to know, but if anyone outside of the package can do it, it will be them.

Should be interesting to say the least!

Lets see, where do I start after reading this GREAT news? First of all, I am glad Dan is going to get the opportunity to blister the course with a bonified racer. He deserves it!!!!! he has done wonders with RRIII and gotten the maximum effort out of what is basically a stock airframe. Mustangs rule!!!!! It will be interesting to see Dan and Curt lead the pack of gold racers.

I hope Team Fury can make the 3350 last all week so Dan can blow the ailerons off the Sea Fury come Sunday. I want a front row seat for that one. CONGRATULATIONS Dan!!!! You have earned this ride.

It looks to me that there are more people viewing than usual(120 in air racin'), I assume because of this thread. Can you confirm that Wayne?
