By the looks of the picture, they pushed it in a hangar and prolly had power and air hooked up to keep the stick actuator comfy.

On the 16's we have two ways of opening a canopy manually. 1. Inside the cockpit on the left side in a very awkward position there is a hand crank so the pilot can rotate the canopy. The 22's don't have this. 2. Someone on the outside can rotate the canopy with a speed handle. This situation prevents this from happening. In the cockpit there is a handle that will jettison only the canopy and there are two handle's that have a similar function on the outside, they must be pulled six feet. During tech school they taught all crew chiefs that if they are pulled head under the wing because when the canopy departs the jet in theory it should hit the right wing but in real world ops checks this rarely occurs. 35th amu 8th fighter wing Kunsan AB WOLF PACK

If the Russian engineers were allowed to design the canopy release system, there would be a big metal lever, it would say, "Canopy Release".

Pull the lever and the canopy can be lifted or pushed off. Problem solved.

Sometimes too much engineering makes things too complicated.

You'd have a hell of a time making the F-22 as stealthy as it is if it had a "big metal lever" on the outside. I imagine that the stealth factor is why the canopy is so expensive too.
