    Re: Aerochia NXT

With Aero Chia and composites, they'll do whatever they need to do. Maybe they have a Tiara - GTSIOL!?!

Or maybe the got an engine from a 917/30?
An awesome collection of epic supercar pictures and galleries. Enjoy the beauty, aggression and outright strinking nature of the best cars on the planet.

It would qualify as an IO-12.

I think the engine would produce 500 (+) HP all day long,
A better bet would be to keep the bore and run a short stroke crank with longer rods. Going in this direction yeilds more power, lower piston speeds, a stiffer crank, less stress, etc. 1 HP/ci and 2 ft-lb/ci could be had at a reliable 48" MAP. Yes, the rods can take it, the dimensions are well within the good rod manufacturers' specs. 650 HP for Reno and every cross country race in a year.

All these exotic engine ideas are exciting but the fact is you can get 650 ponies from a Falconer motor like parker is running, or Performance claims 700 from a 550 like on DGs legacy and both those motors have been proven on the course. This class isn't about engines right now its about airframes, especially with the nxts, so there is no reason to go that exotic yet.

...other than to defer that LARGE cost, by having an engine sponsor....

            Re: Aerochia NXT

I was considering that the Sport Class has a 650 CI limit. Except for the Falconer engine, the Lycoming and Continental engines used are either 540 or 550 or 580 C.I.. Why give up the 70-100 cubic inches? With the IO-720 you can be at the 650 CI limit with the opporunity to produce more HP or match the output of the IO-550's & IO-540's with hopefully have greater reliability/longevity. IMHO, I don't think a de-stroked IO-720 is any more exotic that the IO-550 that Daryl Greenamyer runs. I think a stock IO-550 puts out about 350 HP and his is producing twice that. If you are going to beat Daryl Greenamyer, you must have a clean airplane with lots of HP, and then throw luck on top of that.

              Re: Aerochia NXT

Greenamyer is rumoured to be making 800hp, top lap speeds in the 360 range. My point is only that Eldridge posted 340 with what was rumoured to be a stock malibu motor, 400 horses or so. The Lancair airframe is at its hull speed, you can throw horsepower at that all day and only see minimal gains in speed. An NXT has yet to be really run on the course at race power. The NXT airframe unlike the Legacy was designed from the ground up for that powerplant and those airspeeds, nothing against those chia speed mods they obviously worked some magic on the legacy airframe. While drag does goes up exponentially with speed, that is a big horsepower difference (the difference between Eldridge and Greenamyer). We've all heard the rumours about the crazy power that lyc has built into the dash nxt series of 540s.

So to sum up, and to defend my point about exotic powerplants, the nxt is a slippery airframe already then you get Chiavetta in there drastically reducing the wetted area by changing a racer with a jump seat into a dedicated racer and you know its gonna get even more slippery. So if someone was to race it they already have so much going for them why push the envelope further with an exotic engine. Pick a motor thats race proven and let the airframe do the talking.

                  Tipstall-
Do you know who the engine designer is, or were there might be some info on the specs?

                  Thanks,

But where are we going to get 400LBS of grease and a giant rubberband at this hour?
