I do believe that is how the current crop of scaled down "Sport Class" racers.... the P51s specifically, started out with a custom made Falconer V12 - 650 CID ... I think it was a offshore marine race motor.

It was basically a big block "rat motor" (396 -454) and 4 more cylinders were added..... just like the Viper dodge v10.... two cylinders added to a "B" block(?) wedge mopar.

      Zeke-
They way I understand it, from a second-hand conversation, the original engine concept, was for a 'scale-able' design. One that could grow from two cylinders and up, to be used in a variety of applications, and using Reno for exposure, (beats handing out pamphlets at Oshkosh).
If the gentleman I spoke with was correct, as of Reno last year the engine had not even been run, pending modification to the test gear.
It's going to be a unique sound, when it does.

          Re: Aerochia NXT

Bill, I guess CO2 would be considered pneumatic maybe. I think the Falconer was originally developed for Indy and they moved to the marine industry after open wheel racing changed it's format.

When i worked on CanAm in the late back in the day late 60s..... Falconer Dunn was whole or partly responsible for indy reabuilds among other things.....

i assuem tha the falconer dunn is the falconer of today....????

Question..... are you talking about stock block indy motors?

Factoid...... a 4 cammer indy ford would take 8 hours to safety wire.... a shi***y job.

This supports my theory that most engineers never (used to) touch a wrench. And I have the knuckles to prove it!

                  Re: Aerochia NXT

Bill, the article I am squeezing my brain to remember was in one of the Automotive magazines in the early '90's so some of the details are sketchy but here goes.

If I remember correctly Falconer was two brothers, possibly Falconer Dunn or decendents I don't think that would be a stretch. They built this motor before the open wheel split and I think it was when CART first decided to get away from the turbo engines. I believe the purpose was to make around 1100 hp, about the same as the small turbos, but without the assist.

This was before the days of spec motors and solely factory motors when you could develop and run any make of motor at Indy. I am pretty sure the first motor was a derivative of a small block chevy without the two exhaust ports together.

Like I said sort of fuzzy after several years.

While I'm not really a fan of two cycle diesel engines.. I had a fair amount of experience with a Detroit 6V53 in another lifetime.. That's

                      6: Cylinders
                      V: V configuration
53: 53 cu in per cylinder...

Do the math on that one..

                      318 cu in...

With that engine, we used to move the truck that it was mounted in at a pretty fair clip (normal traffic, delivery truck) with up to 10 pallets of roofing on it that weighed in at over 4000lbs EACH!

I drove it a fair amount of times myself and you really went through some gears to get to speed but..

Those little 318 cubic inches with a roots blower managed some pretty fair power indeed..

WOULD be interesting to see what a creative mind with the talent and resources could come up with along this line...

Since I started on "Smoothies" right after I got my feeding tube removed.. (yea.. yuck but that's the way it went) because wanted it out so bad, I fibbed about being able to swallow "food"... I've "killed" six blenders with my concoctions!

I finally figured out that it was the HUGE frozen strawberries that was breaking the drive coupler on my "osterizer's" so I started nuking them for 20 seconds to soften the blow.. after ordering three replacement couplers.. I have finally found one that seems to be holding up...

Now onto BeerNazi's (buyemcheap buyemoften) blenders!

She prefers the STRONG coupler weak motor design.. you know, the kind you get at Walmart for 15 bux....

These puppies barely even rate being called "blender"!! Smoke machine would be more like it!

                          Buzzzbuzzzzbuzzz piffit!!!

Problem is... I have to replace the darn things!

My solution was an industrial strength B&D model (you know.. MORE POWER!)... So far, that's the cat's arse as far as I'm concerned!

But... with great care, her "Sunbeam" 14.95 Walmart replacement unit (yep, they replaced the smoking hulk, with yet another potential victim, free of charge) has been holding up.. Although.. it smells to high heaven every time I run it!

I'm probably the only guy I know who packs his blender when he goes on trips... (serious)

Thanks for makin my "mornin" Peas!!

Now I know what I want for my birthday!

PS.. OH yea... I since have (for quite some time) been able to swallow most foods.. though, I'm probably addicted to starting my day with a smoothie forever.. .and ask me sometime about my "sneakerwave" killer smoothie!

Unless I'm completely mistaken, the Falconer of today is Ryan Falconer.

Ryan Falconer Racing Engines has been building, designing and developing race-winning engines for over 50 years. This is the home of the Falconer V12, L6 and IRL Street V8 street rod engines.

You can get the V-12 in automotive and off-shore versions.......or you can get your very own 2002 Chevy IRL engine for your street rod project.
