Tales of a little yellow Grumman

On a recent trip to Shafter to visit with the Warlock gang. My good friend Randy Goss set me up with an opportunity to get some flight instruction in his Grumman AA-1 Yankee. Interestingly enough I found getting around on the ground harder than taking off and flying.

Switching from brake to rudder on takeoff was a bit interesting but I managed to keep the plane fairly straight

It was nice to have Jeff there to get some shots of me in the pilots seat.

While I was out flying around Miss TNT treated Jeff to a couple of low passes.
After my lesson Randy took a few people up (not sure if you can call 3 feet up) and buzzed the field a few times. The airport was a bit quiet but I did get to meet a very young Mr. Hinton who had flown up from Chino in a T-6. Will we get to see another Hinton rounding the pylons someday?
We also did a little poking around in some hangers and saw a piece of the Red Baron (yes that Red Baron) and a P-51 spinner that was used on Rare Bear.
Somehow along the way I managed to acquire half a Stearman wing.
I need to head back up there sometime before PRS while I’m up there I will get you an update on the racers at Shafter Field.

Victor, any plans on trying to sneak Jeffrey out to the Pylons during PRS? I bet that boy of yours could put most out there to shame.

It's classified for the moment, really cool stuff though!

Oh now that would be pushing my luck a little too far... lol. I don't think he will be with me this time It would be interesting though.
PRS for media is about the same as in September.

So Vic, I heard that Goss wants to hire you to fly is G-String when it's done. Any truth to the rumor that your flight in the Grumman was the first step in that direction?

More important, were you able to replicate the 'inverted ribbon pickup' pass that Randy has so-well perfected?

The more I fly, the more I understand exactly what is going on when I'm looking through my camera. So when I'm photographing aircraft I'm not not really on the ground I'm somewhere up there... Does that kinda make sense

G-String ??? we'll see. Randy said something about him needing to race a bigger airplane...

Hmmmm.... ever wonder why I've been training my boy Jeff to be such a great photographer....
