Piloting his Edge 540, American pilot Kirby Chambliss reached a top speed of 513 km/h, while Hungarian Peter Besenyei achieved a record 13.8G in his new Edge 540.
Chambliss topped the qualification rankings, followed by fellow American Mike Mangold and Besenyei in third. Paul Bonhomme of the U.K. came in fourth.
The pilots flew two qualification rounds in the afternoon. The total times of both rounds decide the starting lineup for tomorrow’s race. Chambliss, who was the fastest pilot in the first leg of this year’s Red Bull Air Race World Series in Abu Dhabi, scored a total time of 02:54.22, while Mangold, who won last year’s World Series, achieved 02:58.00.
Besenyei, who took the top spot in Barcelona earlier this month, had a total time of 02:59.48, with Bonhomme coming in nine seconds later at 03:08.52.
Chambliss, Mangold and Besenyei continue to dominate the World Series and all three are near equal favourites to win in Berlin.
