Favorite airplane parts?

One of these was at the airport the other day, i didnt take the picture but it gives a visual, they parked it right in front of the window. The fuselage is like a salami with wings, Ill give you that but the motors and there cowls were sooo slick. Got me thinking bout all kinds of race planes.

Anybody else have any favorite airplane parts?

We call the Fairchild Metro and Merlin aircraft the following names:

-San Antonio Sewer Pipe
-Corporate Mailing Tube
-*
-*

The others are not suitable for the general public.

When Horizon Air used the Metro III, we called them Executive Mailing Tubes and Lawn Darts. Me thinks that when/if turboprops are included in the races, TPE-331's will NOT be hard to find. That aircraft got us through some serious hard times and put us over the top as a money maker back in the day. I don't really miss them, (mostly because of the freakin fuel leaks), but they are what I cut my teeth on as a mechanic. Learned everything I know about sealing fuel tanks, HAH! Simple yet somewhat elegant, rugged, fast too. Certainly one of the better designs for it's time. The Merlin, (not RR), is small enough to make a pretty fast twin engine racer. Don't get me wrong, not anything I would look forward to, but who knows where we'll be 20 years from now?

They are interesting aircraft for sure.

Just make sure that damn door is closed and locked before you move it around the ramp.

Past experience, plus our Repair Station manager is considered an expert on the aircraft.........plus my FAA MIDO-PI was in QC at Fairchild (He has lots of good stories) and finally one of our floor Crew Chiefs was on the wing assembly line at Fairchild.

She is in paint as we speak. On Friday they had just finished stripping the old paint. Should be a couple of more weeks.

On second thought Speed.........It is kinda like "Miss Suzy Q"s paint job, the foward part of the upper cowling has the same checker board pattern.
