It is cool, lots of old names, Penhall, Loening, Lacy and planes, Miss Merced, Super Snoopy, Dave Noland's sick red Mustang and Roger Wolfe's old gold one, cool shot of Ron Reynolds blowing by Gunther Balz in the Bearcats, and a pit stop conversation between Bob Metcalf and Lyle Shelton flying 232 for Frank Sanders. Also a great take off shot of Levitz' P-38, I think it's Vern Thorpe flying, he later asks for a screw driver during the pit stop! Quaint...

Hey, when I get rich and buy the old Maytag Mustang/Stiletto, if I remove the outer panels and make a small canopy will I be destroying a stock airplane? Oh, and paint it red, with a super bondo profiled wing, yeah... and buy the old N number from the Ultra Light owner that has it now...

    Sorry, just stirring stuff up!

    Chris...
The Mojave 1000 video is from the movie Sky High. BEST air racing documentry/movie of all time, hands down.

These are the same clips that Phil Wallick used to show at the Air Race Film Festival at the MGM Grand during race week. Now if we could only find a copy of "A DAY AT THE RACES"....all would be right in the world.

Chris...Stiletto was a different airframe than the Maytag Mustang. They used the same N number, but that was it. Maytag Mustang was Z's old bird that crashed fatally in '79. Stiletto was built up from parts (mostly from two ex-Israeli airframes).

I know, but it is as good as it gets sometimes. I can't stand the change in the N number for a "Vanity Plate". It's just me.
( I changed my mind about the paint, I would go copper and brown like the Maytag paint job.)
I used to know where some of the Stiletto parts came from, do you recall the fuse and tail history?

When certain Air Forces don't have any actual combat capability, they try and make up for it by filming videos of themselves flying low.

I don't fly any lower than 500 feet on tactical missions, by law. In combat, that's another story.

What's going on in the video, if you ask me, is cool looking...but stupid.

            Randy....

Slong as you're here... Can they fly formo with the terrain folowing radar?

Reason asked... in the vid, it appears that the lead is flying a bit higher than the guy we're "with".... Wondering if he'd also be flying radar or on the lead. Would make the map reading a bit more "impressive" if you can call being stupid impressive I guess..

I do not think they are flying with TF radar in that video. AFAIK, the Mirages those froggies are scooting around in don't have TF, so their showboating is a day-only (e.g. not at night) exercise.

Real men do that at night.

Re: OMG!!!! These guys would make good air racers!

LOL.. so the dood reading the map is TRULY showboating then..

No matter how you slice it, would be one hell of a ride!

We ground hogs can only go to sleep dreaming about what you guys do and have done!

Just sitting in one of the jets is usually a huge thing... simply impossible to imagine the breadth of space in "your world"

I've thought about it while watching jet demos.. one second you're "here" then literally, seconds later, you're MILES away. The sense of your space and the power to be somewhere else almost instantly must take a huge bit of retraining of the mind to grasp it all..
