Victor, excellent shots. I have to laugh, in fact I launched some coffee through the ol nostrils when I saw the cockpit shot of the guy flying in #1, it appears that he is wearing a Navy style flight line / maintenance cranial, priceless!

This is rediculous. Pretty soon pilots will have to start worrying about wardrobe and makeup. "hey look at the size of that booger on the guy flying #107." "Good grief, somebody please tell #602 an Air Force jumpsuit and Navy helmet just don't mix!"

I've been saying for years that F1's needed more span. It will be intersting to see how this one goes.

In this case TOO long, at least according to past pilots.
A lot of flex, and a sundial roll rate.
Not to mention the clipping penalties, towing through the crowds.

I've been saying for years that F1's needed more span. It will be intersting to see how this one goes.

The Grove GR-7s #55 and #96 have been around since the late 80s. Although fast (not fastest) during qualifying, when mixing it up on course with everyone else they tended to slow way down.

Not the most competitive IF1s on the course.

Jim Bumford was top qualifier in #55 "Bummer's Bullet" three years in a row I believe- 1990, 1991 and 1992

I think the best he finished in the Gold was 3rd?

Agreed..............I guess my point was, that when he mixed it up on the course he could not keep the speed up as when he was alone. Jim and I were very good friends. We always pitted next to each other (and his girlfriend was pretty damn cute too).

We discussed the GR-7 quite a bit, and he was always dissapointed in how it performed in a race. Jon had a hard time making it go fast too.

The span is ~26 ft. I believe most other "long wing" F1's are typically 20 to 23ft. David Hoover's Endeavor has a pretty long wing too.
