There are probably many newer fans here who have no idea where this Team Wang stuff started. Here are some old posts that will help you ask, "What's wang with this picture?"

yes I have heard of Team Wang and seen some pictures of the airplane, will be very interesting if they can make it to Reno 2002, if not I’m sure it will bring some competition to Reno 2003!! Any comments please reply!

"Update on former Team Wang!!"
Hi,
After reading a lot of the posts on here and hearing our name mentioned a couple of times we thought we should let you know we are still around.
The Bad News:
We are going to be a no show for 2002. After some bad investments
and personal issues (gambling destroys lives!), we were forced to drop our primary sponsor. The plane has not flown in nearly a year due to legal and money problems brought on by foolish and illegal use of funds.
The Good News:
Our legal battles are behind us and we have full ownership of the plane and design rights!! New sponsorship (and a new name) is already lined up with promise of an even greater commitment than before. We will definitely be ready for Reno 2003 and may make some stops on the airshow circuit before then!!
Current status:
The plane is currently stuck in Japan. The racer is currently flyable although the failure rate of the turbos we have now makes it that a little dangerous. New turbos and other engine and structural upgrades are sitting on the hanger floor waiting for install!
Future To Do List:
1. Complete rebuild of the engines. Not really necessary but we may as well as she is down.
2. Install new turbo and intra-cooling systems. (mid-September)
3. Install all new engine management system. (currently in process)
4. Ship the plane to the U.S. (late October early November.)
5. Win Reno 2003.
6. Set new speed record.

The plane is a completely new design from the ground up. Some parts such as the landing gear and canopy are borrowed from existing aircraft but for the most part the plane is all new. I will highlight a few of the features below.
- Twin engine pusher design. Our engines are based on automobile race motors although highly modified from their normal racing use. We have made about 1700 horsepower a piece in the past but will be able to produce 2000+ after our new upgrades.
- All composite wings and tail along with many other new technology
building techniques and some of our own patents.
- We put a lot of focus on safety and have a patent on a ejection capsule for the pilot.
- All telemetry and engine management can be monitored and controlled
from the ground or the plane.
I have some copies of some of the original thumbnails of the plane I
will try and get some pictures on here so you guys can get a taste of what she looks like.

Let's take another look at this. There are not many auto based engines that can make 2000 RELIABLE HP for an extended period. (Drag racers make way more but life expectancy is extremely short.) Load it up with turbos and you can get there but plumbing will be a nightmare. And lets not forget the intercoolers. I just can't see developing that kind of power and
a) keeping the thing cool
b) keeping it in one piece
I don't think offshore power boats make that kind of power from their auto variants and weight is not nearly as much an issue.
I will gladly eat my words if something shows up on the ramp but sounds like fantasy and unbridled optimism to me.
I tend to agree with the previous post, parts of this sound too familiar. Is sani-hut on the loose again? Japan, just far enough away...
