That is not fire damage.....come on, what happens to oil when it gets hit with solvent? There was oil on the windscreen, so pops used the solvent spray so he could see. As for AlisoBob, You obviously do not race anything, this is a race not a dog and pony show. I left my e-mail address just for these very reasons. By the way, The Doc was Great, but how many engines has he built this year? If we were all to use his engines, you would have a seafury convention not an airrace.
Does anyone know how often they update the qual times site?
Ryan, not sure. I still cannot view any times on the RARA site. My brother had him timed at about a 386 by hand, but the board in the RARA hanger does not show a time for him
The board does show a time for Spirit of Texas although the site does not. Time on the board says 433.652.
Hmmm...given the past experiences with the same why would they leave a spare at home instead of bringing it on the truck ??? And if this is case how'd they get a time as described by Glider90??
Could be true, but.....
Don't worry, that was exactly my question as well!!!
I am just passing along what I heard from a guy who swore to be a reputable source... that might be reckless on my part, I know, but I considered that before posting.

Red Bull has no earthly idea what "air racing" is.
Just out of the shower and starting on my first whiskey.
Here's what I think. Dago did not have a fire, that's all oil. I watched them park the plane and wipe up the oil. Even the vertical tail was covered head to foot. The plane is in the hanger and the spare is being prepared.
The Bear had a barbeque - medium rare. No apparent damage, just a stack fire. See photos.
More coming if I don't just give up and get drunk.
PS. I'm not sure if the spare carb came from Dwelle, but he was around.
PPS. Adding a shot of Dago being prepped for its change, and so people don't think I only care about carnage, a shot of Czech Mate looking good and flying fast.
PPPS. Okay, one more from yesterday. It's a shot of the crew giving Strega its mojo.
Dwelle did deliver a mystery crate to the Bear crew about 6:00pm. And I wouldn't be throwing any dirt on the Bear's grave just yet. Remember the problems they overcame 2 years ago? As for Strega I was in front of there pit when they were draining the oil and checking the screens just before I left Stead tonight. I didn't see anything but smiles, and there was no obvious thrashing going on. If they have problems, they're hiding it well. As for Dago, I hate to see airplanes break so early in the week also, but they've got to run them sooner or later. And watching these guys battle through the obstacles is a large part of what makes air race week so cool. I'm just glad Dan got the airplane safely on the ground. Wednesday is going to be a very intense qualifying session.
The Dago crew will be putting in the pumpkin motor, and if I am not mistaken that was the motor that was in Martin's Ridge Runner III when he was making wholesale passes on most of the fiels in last years Gold race. We shall see what the Great Pumpkin has in store.
well i have a photo taken about 1/2 lap before the mayday was called..
and it looks like there is a flame coming out one of the stacks
since i cannot make the photo greats get together i cannot ask them on person if this is a flame or a photo freak....
